The idea of The Holly Factory was conceived in the winter of 1997. The vision was to provide a quality and reliable supply of larger container grown hollies. The individuals behind the idea were two veteran nurserymen. Chuck Stephens of Arbor Landscapers Inc. in Spencerville, MD and Dan Strosnider of Future Trees Inc. in Alachua, FL.
The official incorporated name of The Holly Factory is Florida Farms Inc. The originators felt Florida Farms to be too broad and the goal of the nursery was to produce quality hollies one after the other, therefore The Holly Factory took hold.
The farm started on 50 acres and has grown to 160 acres. From the beginning, we have maintained a low overhead to keep our prices competitive. We pride ourselves on our flexibility. If we have the ability to fulfill your request, we will.
Container hollies are our staple plant, specifically 15 gallon ‘Nellie R. Stevens’, Oakleaf™/Oakland™ and Robin™ holly. We have tried other, but I believe these cultivars are the only ones you will see on our farm for many years to come. Another plant we are committed to growing is the Thuja ‘Green Giant’, an alternative to Leyland Cypress. We carry a classic selection of crape myrtle with the two stand outs being the semi-dwarfs ‘Acoma’ and ‘Lipan’.
